Museum of Bad Art

The logo for the Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) features intentionally clashing letter forms to reflect the museum's celebration of unconventional, "bad" art. By breaking design rules, the logo mirrors the chaotic, playful nature of the museum’s collection, embracing imperfections and adding a sense of intentional discord. The design captures the essence of the museum’s unique approach to art, where what might be perceived as "bad" is celebrated for its creativity and individuality.

Process Work

This identity started with sketches of word marks, imagery, and acronyms. After viewing all these sketches together, the simple flower sketch stood out as a unique mark that could be used in an acronym for the O.

After doing type studies and deciding on an acronym mark the idea of using multiple typfaces became clear. Even though in design there are rules with using multiple typefaces the idea to make the logo "bad" on purpose allowed for the breaking of conventional design rules. This then led to the multiple typefaces for the main mark and the use of Roboto as the type on the right.

All the process work then led to the final logo. With the use of multiple typefaces and the childlike flower to give the impression of "bad" design that goes with the idea of the museum.
